WATCH: Residents of the war-torn city of Bakhmut adjust to life

In the eastern city of Bakhmut, on the front lines of a protracted battle between Ukrainian and Russian forces, there is no let-up in the fighting.

Throughout Friday a constant exchange of small arms and mortar fire could be heard from and towards the Russian positions, with smoke billowing from the center of the city, behind the gold-domed All Saints Church.

In Ukrainian-controlled Bakhmut, a charity that helps residents has installed washing machines and hot-water showers in an underground basement. They’ve also been digging to reach an underground well, to facilitate access to water, as the city’s last residents adjust to life in the war-torn city.
