China rejects accusations of “military assistance” to Russia
The United States told allies that China has signaled its readiness to provide military assistance to Russia in support of the invasion of Ukraine. The Financial Times reports it citing some sources. Both China and the Kremlin had instead denied the news of a request for “military assistance” made by Russia in Beijing. The reconstructions released by the US on the Russian request for weapons and other supplies to China “are just American disinformation”, said the spokesman for the foreign ministry, Zhao Lijian. Later came the denial of the Kremlin, with Moscow specifying that it had the necessary weapons to continue the offensive.
China never condemned the attack on Moscow but abstained, rather than voting “no”, on the UN resolution against Russia. Only a few days ago, however, Chinese President Xi Jinping used for the first time the term “war”, so unwelcome to his ally Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, Moscow’s propaganda pressure does not stop, which now accuses Kiev of having enlisted mercenaries among ISIS jihadists. Responding to the same accusations launched in recent days by Kiev according to which Moscow would have recruited 16,000 ISIS members, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov attacked the Ukrainian government which, “supported by its Western sponsors” is “recruiting mercenaries from among the terrorists who fought in the Middle East, first of all in Syria ”. They would be promised wages “ten times higher than the average wages of a militiaman in Syria or Libya”.
The conflict at the gates of Europe
The Russian-Ukrainian conflict is one step away from the borders with the European Union. Russian missiles destroyed a military base in Yavoriv, halfway between Lviv and the Polish border, which is about 25 km away. 35 people were killed, among the 134 wounded also Dutch members of the foreign legion. Moscow claims to have killed “foreign mercenaries” and destroyed “foreign weapons”. This morning the Antonov airport (Hostomel), in the north of Kiev, was hit by Russian bombing. The authorities of the Ukrainian capital denounce this, as reported by the BBC, recalling that it is an important cargo terminal and air base.
In addition to the mayors of Dniprorudne, Yevhen Matveyev, and Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, Russian forces also kidnapped the president of the Melitopol District Council, Sergiy Pryima, and the vice president of the Zaporizhzhya oblast, Leila Ibrahimova, denounces activist Maria. Zolkina. At least four other activists were kidnapped in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhya region, and a wheelchair activist from the Luhansk region, formerly detained by the authorities of the self-proclaimed pro-Russian people’s republic, Olaksandr Kononov, was killed yesterday in his home near Severodonetsk. .
