On April 14, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the “Moscow”, the flagship of the Black Sea fleet, sank while being towed following a fire that broke out on board. However, according to the Ukrainian army, the ship was hit by Neptune missiles, as confirmed by a senior US official. The Kremlin denies this news. He claims that the cruiser “Mosca” has lost stability due to damage to the hull. The press service of the Southern Ukrainian Operational Command has now released a video indicating the true cause of the sinking. He confirms that the ship sank as a result of the attack and not – as the Russian Defense Ministry claims – as a result of a breakdown.

According to Ukrainian media, the cruiser’s crew also sank with the ship. Only 54 of the approximately 500 sailors survived the attack. According to the unofficial results of the independent portal Meduza.io, 37 fleet officers were killed. The Russians, on the other hand, only informed of the death of the “Moscow” commander, Anton Kurpin, who, among other things, was to order the bombing of Snake Island at the beginning of the war.

These units can also fight air and submarine targets. “Moskwa” was over 180 meters long and had a displacement of over 11,000 tons. The personnel of the sunken ship numbered 510.
