“Līgo” boat moored in the Daugava partially sank in Lielvārde on Monday, TV3 program “Degpunktā” reports.

“Līgo” boat moored in the Daugava partially sank in Lielvārde on Monday, TV3 program “Degpunktā” reports.

The 21-meter-long and four-meter-wide boat belonging to a private person started to sink, its hull could not withstand the pressure caused by the ice and broke.

The owner of the boat refused to comment to the program, but experts invited by her worked at the scene and assessed whether there were any risks of environmental pollution. The municipality is also involved.

As the program reported, this is not the first time that particular ship has caused problems. After the incident, the rescuers have installed 72 meters of absorbent bollards at the scene.

It is not known what products and in what quantity could leak from the vessel.

The owner of the boat has stated that everything possible is being done so that “Līgo” is taken out of the water as soon as possible.
