On Friday, March 24, the United States imposed sanctions on the official jet plane of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and two car manufacturers for intimidation of employees.

The US Ministry of Finance has imposed sanctions on the “Boeing 737 EX-001PA” plane, which Lukashenko and his family members use for official and personal trips, including to international destinations.

Sanctions that prohibit US citizens and businesses from doing business with sanctioned entities could make it more difficult for an aircraft operator to obtain services and spare parts.

Sanctions also apply to the Belarus Automobile Plant and the Minsk Automobile Plant, which intimidated their workers who participated in strikes and peaceful protests after the August 2020 presidential election.

Lukashenko was once again declared the winner of this election, however, the opposition and the international community accused the regime of extensive falsification of the election results.

Protesters at a Minsk car plant were intimidated and then fired, and at a Belarus car plant they were threatened with firing, the US Treasury Department said.

Sanctions have also been applied to several recently appointed members of the Central Election Commission of Belarus. Sanctions have already been applied to the commission itself.
