Union Berlin are now runners-up in the Bundesliga after a 2-1 win at Werder Bremen, while Bayer Leverkusen achieved their fifth consecutive Bundesliga triumph with a 2-0 win at Bochum.

Amos Pieper broke the deadlock for Bremen in the 14th minute, but his sloppy back pass to goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka landed on Janik Haberer’s feet to equalize for Union in the 18th minute. The capital’s side had a goal disallowed just before the break but claimed victory thanks to Kevin Behrens in the 46th minute.

Leverkusen opened the scoring against Bochum thanks to Edmond Tapsoba’s spot kick. Adam Hlozek sealed victory in the 56th minute thanks to an assist from Florian Wirtz, starting for the first time since he recovered from a torn cruciate ligament.

Elsewhere, Randal Kolo Muani gave Freiburg the lead in the 42nd minute, but Matthias Ginter found the equalizer for Frankfurt early in the second half to set up a 1-1 draw. Augsburg defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Mergim Berisha.
