Chelsea have confirmed that Thiago Silva has signed a new contract with the club.
The Brazilian’s deal was set to expire at the end of the season, and he was eligible to talk to foreign clubs about a free transfer in the summer.
But the Blues confirmed on Friday night that Silva has extended his contract for a further 12 months, tying him to the club until 2024.
Silva said in a statement: “I’m honestly so happy to continue my career with the Blues.
“When I signed my first contract here, it was only for one year. Now it’s already the fourth! I couldn’t have imagined it, but it’s really a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea.”
In a joint statement, co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: “We are delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea.
“He is a world-class talent, as he has demonstrated over many years for club and country, and his experience, qualities and leadership skills are vital to our future vision.
“We are thrilled that he has extended his contract with us and look forward to more success with him!”
