The water level of the largest Italian lake, bordering the regions of Lombardy and Veneto and the autonomous region of Trento, is currently 45.8 centimeters above average sea level. In the last 70 years, this data was an average of 109 centimeters. According to media reports, the water level was already so low in February that it was possible to cross with dry feet to the island of San Biagio in the lake. The latest data was sent by the Sentinel-2 satellite, which monitors drought in the framework of the Copernicus program operated by the European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA).

The drop in the water level of the 370 square kilometer lake is caused by the severe drought that has hit many parts of Italy since last summer. which threatens agriculture, tourism, shipping and local communities in the area.
