Monaco reported to the Senate that Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act has so far proved very important for the war in Ukraine, as the United States has uncovered serious Russian atrocities thanks to it.
The aforementioned law will automatically expire at the end of 2023, and the support of the American legislature is needed in order to extend it. Basically, both major American parties are open to this, but in recent years several scandals have been linked to the legislation, as the authorities have also monitored the communications of American citizens in reference to the law.
At the Senate hearing, in addition to extending Section 702, Monaco also asked the US legislature to give Ukraine the seized assets of Russian oligarchs.
