Before taking two people hostage in a shopping center in the eastern German city of Dresden on Saturday, the 40-year-old suspect fired shots into the offices of Radio Dresden and tried to break down a door.

The suspect, who according to police killed his 62-year-old mother that morning, tried to enter the Radio Dresden offices at around 8:30 (07:30 GMT) on Saturday, but was unable to get through the door, said said the managing director of the issuer. , Tino Utassy, ​​​​told dpa.

After he failed to break into the radio station, the suspect shot through a hole in the door. The morning show teams for Hitradio RTL and Radio Dresden were affected.

“Luckily, the staff had the presence of mind to run through a second exit and escaped,” Utassy said.

According to the broadcaster, no one was injured in the accident.
