At the travel barometer of the market research company YouGov in November 2020 the German citizens still noticed with particular reluctance. 34 percent stated at the time that they would not plan any trips in the next twelve months. That was the highest value among the analyzed countries in Europe.

Falling infection numbers at the beginning of summer and the increasing vaccination rate have rekindled the desire to travel in this country. Holiday in their own country is the obvious option for most people in view of the still uncertain situation. In September 2020, according to YouGov, Germany led the list of the most popular vacation destinations for German citizens 30 percent. In the current survey from May 2021 Almost every second German has stated that they are planning a vacation in Germany, it said when the number was published in July 2021.

Most popular vacation countries But the Germans are increasingly daring to travel abroad . The End 2020 only had 31 percent planned an international trip in the next twelve months. This share is now on 41 percent increased. According to the report, Germany is clearly ahead of countries like France (31 percent), the United Kingdom (28 percent) or the USA (17 percent). In Japan, according to the analysis carried out in countries, only five percent of those surveyed travel abroad.

The Japanese willing to travel were drawn particularly far into the distance. According to YouGov, eight of their ten top travel destinations abroad could only be reached with a flight of at least six hours. The balance sheet was similar for Australia and the USA. The respondents from Germany, on the other hand, limited themselves exclusively to short-haul destinations.
