The judge of the preliminary hearing of Brescia, Federica Brugnara, has acquitted the public prosecutor of Milan Paolo Storari from the accusation of disclosure of professional secrecy, in the first instance trial carried out with an abbreviated procedure for the so-called “Amara case” named after the lawyer Piero Amara, for years Eni’s legal advisor. Storari was acquitted because according to the judge the fact does not constitute a crime: the reasons for the sentence will be made public within 15 days.

The “Amara case” has to do with some secret reports containing Amara’s accusations against high representatives of the political and judicial world, and which would have been circulated among the magistrates and handed over to some journalists. In these minutes Amara referred to an alleged secret organization called “Hungary” capable of influencing the political and judicial life of the country.

In April 2020 Storari handed over to the magistrate Piercamillo Davigo the minutes of Amara’s interrogations regarding the alleged secret association. Storari decided to give the minutes to Davigo, at the time a member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, believing that Amara’s statements were not receiving adequate attention from the Milan prosecutor’s office. Shortly after, the delivery of the reports became public and Storari and Davigo were investigated by the Brescia prosecutor’s office (competent for the Milan magistrates guilty or victims of crimes), which believed that the delivery had taken place “in the absence of an official reason that authorized the disclosure of the content of documents covered by investigative secrecy and without investing the competent institutional bodies responsible for supervising the activity of the judicial offices “.

Unlike Storari, Davigo had chosen to be tried with an ordinary rite, and at the end of February he was remanded for trial.
