The car of Lazio captain Ciro Immobile collided with a tram in Rome on Sunday, a fire brigade spokesman told Dpa.
Immobile was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred. His daughters were also in the car. After the accident they were all taken to the hospital for medical tests.
Lazio have declared that Immobile suffered a sprain trauma to the spine and a compound fracture of the 11th right rib.
“Conditions are currently good,” Lazio said, adding that the player remained under observation.
Previously, Immobile was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport as saying: “The tram crossed the red light. Luckily I’m fine, only my arm hurts a little.” The tram driver was injured, the newspaper reported.
Images published by Italian media showed the front of Immobile’s car completely destroyed, while the tram derailed following the collision.
Some tram passengers were also taken to hospital for tests, reports the Ansa news agency. Police did not provide details about the circumstances of the crash.
