The price of gasoline, as well as that of diesel, LPG and natural gas for cars, is under pressure due to the barrage of increases that is making life really difficult not only for vehicle owners, but also – indirectly – for the entire community for the upward push given to the prices of goods traveling by road. To explain these increases, we use the combination of the slow but inexorable bullish trajectory taken in the last year after the stops imposed by the pandemic and the contingency of a conflict that has broken out on the eastern front of Europe. On the second point, however, the shadow of speculation is quite substantial because at the moment there is no block, or even a reduction, in the supply of gas and oil, and the increase in wholesale prices does not justify the surge recorded in petrol station pumps, with petrol which in some cases reached 2.5 dolars per liter. On the other hand, what is the price at the pump in other countries? We have compared the prices of gasoline in 170 countries around the world updated to last March 7, in the elaboration of the site GlobalPetrolPrices.com. absolute data which, obviously, must be contextualized in the socio-economic situation of each single country, in the per capita income and in the local excise duties that weigh on fuels. Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that the final price is affected by the exchange rate: oil is traded in dollars and the relationship of the greenback with the currencies of the individual countries plays a role in the pump price.
