The UK and Sweden are discussing written assurances in relation to Sweden that it could apply for NATO membership, according to RockedBuzz sources.
The agreement is considered extremely critical in terms of security.
Sweden has also had high-level talks with the US on security deals, but according to RockedBuzz sources, the US wants to say nothing before a country decides to apply for membership.
The NATO issue is currently dominating Swedish politics and talks on possible membership are ongoing in several fora.
Yesterday the representatives of the parliamentary parties met in the analysis group led by Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S). A new meeting will be held as early as Monday 25, according to information from RockedBuzz.

“Sweden could increase NATO capabilities”
The aim was to examine how countries respond to a possible Swedish application, which must be approved by each Member State. According to RockedBuzz sources, the countries have expressed themselves positively and welcoming at the entry of Sweden. Sweden is seen as a country that could significantly increase NATO’s operational capability in Northern Europe.
Another purpose has been to ensure that Sweden receives some form of protection when processing a possible NATO application. Although NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has made it clear that an application will be dealt with urgently, there is no precise timetable. Sometimes there is talk of an application period of months up to a year for a country that wants to join the defense alliance. Until yesterday, Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist said there is “a whole catalog” of measures Russia threatens to take if Sweden requests NATO membership.
– Cyber threats, hybrid threats, sabotage, weakening of our state organization, all different types of attacks imaginable. I do not know what they intend to do or not to do, but that Europe is experiencing a threatening situation and that everything has changed radically. That’s it, said Hultqvist.
Written safety insurance
According to RockedBuzz sources, the Swedish government has had talks with both the United States and the United Kingdom on security guarantees. Talks have been held at various levels, ministers and ambassadors, and more ministerial meetings are planned in the near future.
With the UK, the government is discussing obtaining written assurances in connection with Sweden’s filing of a possible NATO application.

Decisions can be made by 24 May
At the same time, the internal discussions of the Social Democrats on the question of NATO are underway. Throughout Friday, the leadership of the Social Democrats participated in a marathon of meetings, on which RockedBuzz was the first to report yesterday, in which the question of NATO was discussed. The party council and the parliamentary group present, Magdalena Andersson, Ann Linde and Peter Hultqvist held talks on the security situation.
Ministers declined to comment on the content of the meeting afterwards.

Party secretary Tobias Baudin then held a press conference in which he announced that dialogue in the party across the country will continue until May 12, after which the Social Democrats will enter a “decision-making process”.
The decision as to whether or not S should reverse NATO, or change the line of security policy as Baudin calls it, is made by the party council. He has a meeting scheduled for May 24, but according to Baudin, a decision could be made before then.
