St. Louis CITY SC added to their inaugural roster with the signature by midfielder Njabulo Blom of South African team Kaizer Chiefs FC.

Arriving for an undisclosed fee, Blom signed a two-year contract with St. Louis until 2024 mls season with club detention options for 2025 and 2026.

“We are thrilled to bring a young South African international player like Blom to our team and to St. Louis,” St. Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a club press release.

“His warlike, super aggressive and winning qualities as a central defensive midfielder match what we are looking for in our philosophy. Adding Blom to our squad is exactly the missing piece to the puzzle we needed.”

In three-and-a-half years with Kaizer Chiefs, Blom had eight assists in 94 appearances in all competitions as he helped the club finish runners-up in the South African top-flight in 2019/20. At international level, Blom made his South Africa debut in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana in September 2021.

The 23-year-old is expected to be a regular starter in the St. Louis midfield alongside designated player Eduard Lowen. Blom will be managed by fellow South African Bradley Carnell, who represented the Kaizer Chiefs during his playing career.
