After completing his first full season as a player for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Ryan Gauld is looking to lead the club to greater success in 2023.

The Scottish playmaker has scored eight goals and seven assists in 32 appearances in all competitions in 2022 as he leads the Whitecaps to the Canadian championship title, their first major silverware since 2015.

As a result, Vancouver can go on the hunt for five separate trophies in 2023, with a Concacaf Champions League campaign to contend with alongside Leagues Cup battles, mls Cup, Supporters Shield and defense of the Canadian championship title.

It will be a tight schedule, but one Gauld is relishing it as he goes in search of more medals.

“We have to approach everyone with a positive outlook and with the hope of winning more trophies,” said Gauld VWFC Official Site.

“It will be fine, I think it’s something everyone is looking forward to, the Leagues Cup is a new format, a lot of the guys here, like me, haven’t played in the Champions League, we obviously have the Canadian league to try and keep as well as MLS, so everyone is looking forward to it.”

Whitecaps aren’t exactly short of inspiration when it comes to sealing more silverware. Their shootout victory is over Toronto FC in last season’s final – in which Gauld scored his first penalty – he handed over his first major piece of silverware in seven years, following defeats in the last two CanCham finals.

Gauld remembers that triumphant evening fondly and hopes to use it as a spark to ignite further successes in 2023.

“This is what we all play football for, because we all want trophies, so having the chance to win it in Vancouver in front of a packed stadium was something we will all remember,” recalled Gauld.

“We don’t want it to be just once every 10 years or something [we win a trophy]we want to give continuity to this, so next year we will try to do the same”.
