Russia has removed the T-54 tanks developed about 70 years ago from long-term storage and is taking them to Ukraine for use in military operations, the team of military analysts “Conflict Intelligence Team” (CIT) said.
CIT has received several photos and videos showing a train carrying armored vehicles from the Russian Far East.
Among the tanks transported by the train, CIT experts recognized T-54 tanks and some of its modifications, possibly also T-55.
The information at CIT’s disposal shows that the cargo train departed from Arsenjeva, Pijuras region, where the 1295th Central Tank Reserve and Storage Base is located.
This is said to be the first time that the removal of T-54/T-55 tanks from long-term storage is recorded.
Previously, CIT experts noted that T-62 tanks were also taken from this base, which the Russian army later used in its invasion of Ukraine.
The first modifications of the T-54 tank were put into the arsenal of the Soviet Army shortly after the end of the Second World War – in the second half of the forties. The T-55 was handed over to the army in 1958.
In Russia, trains with ancient T-54/55 were seen, which were withdrawn from storage bases. It is said to be the first recorded instance of T-54/55 withdrawal from storage.
