Real Madrid ended the 2022/23 Liga on Sunday evening with a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club.
The Blancos initially went behind early in the second half thanks to an Oihan Sancet goal, but found a way back into the game through (yes, you guessed it) departing Karim Benzema.
The French striker’s penalty was not only enough to secure a draw, but also a second place in La Liga.
Here are Real Madrid’s best and worst players according to the game 90 minutesplayer ratings of:
Real Madrid’s best player against Athletic Club
Thibaut Courtois – 9/10

Did Thibaut Courtois expect to have to make seven saves, one of them from a penalty, to ensure Real Madrid didn’t lose on Sunday?
Probably not.
Did he though?
Absolutely.
The Belgian proved once again why he is the best goalkeeper around this weekend, making a series of surprising stops to earn Los Blancos what proved to be a crucial point.
No
Honorable mention
Vinicius Junior – 8/10
It’s officially official: watching Vinicius Junior is the most fun a football fan can have.
The Brazilian was once again Real Madrid’s most powerful striker against Athletic Club on Sunday, causing a stir with his incredible dribbling prowess. Were it not for a poor finishing from Rodrygo, Vini would have ended the game with perhaps the assist of the season to his credit, as he put his Brazilian colleague on the field after a brilliant labyrinth run down the right wing.
Real Madrid’s worst player against Athletic Club
Dani Ceballos – 3/10

It was basically not Dani Ceballos’ day on Sunday.
Honestly, we’d forgotten he was on the pitch until he was carelessly dispossessed in his back-third ahead of Athletic’s goal. He was hooked shortly after that mistake.
A bad exit.
Disgraceful mention
Dani Carvajal – 4/10
Simply put, Dani Carvajal’s performance was “sloppy”.
His touch was slightly off, his passing was slightly wayward and most of Athletic’s successful attacks came along his flank.
