The Brazilian president was invited to visit Kiev
The leadership in Kyiv invited Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to visit Ukraine to see for himself the consequences of the war started by Russia, while the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry criticized him for his peace initiative, because according to Kyiv, it contains wrong principles.
Oleh Nyikolenko, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, confirmed the invitation to the Brazilian president on social media. According to the post, Lula should visit Kyiv to “understand the real reasons for Russian aggression and its consequences for global security.”
One day before the announcement of the invitation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Brazil on Monday and noted that the South American country’s position on the year-long war is similar to that of Moscow.
Nikolenko said: Kiev is watching Lula’s efforts to find a solution with interest, but does not accept that he treats “the victim and the aggressor” equally.
The spokesperson also rejected Lula’s view that “countries supporting Ukraine, which is defending itself against deadly aggression, would incite war.” The Brazilian president blamed the United States and the European Union for the prolongation of the war, saying that they continue to supply arms to Ukraine.
In order to end the war as soon as possible, Lula took a stand in favor of a policy of non-intervention and open diplomacy, and called for the formation of a “staff” that would mediate between the two warring parties with the involvement of neutral countries. According to the Brazilian president’s peace plan, Russia should return the territories it has occupied since last February, and in exchange, Kiev could renounce Crimea, which was annexed to Russia in 2014.

The Council of Europe spoke out in defense of the Crimean Tatars
Dunja Mijatovic, the Strasbourg-based human rights commissioner of the 46-member Council of Europe, called for the protection of the human rights of the Crimean Tatars and the provision of education and media use in the Tatar mother tongue on Tuesday.
Dunja Mijatovic, in her report on the human rights situation of the Crimean Tatars living in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, wrote that the illegal annexation of the territory by Russia initiated a series of unfortunate events and measures that resulted in serious and repeated violations of the human rights of the Crimean Tatars.
The measures have led to the creation of an environment that contributes to the stigmatization of the Crimean Tatars, results in ethnic division and pits the population of Crimea against them, he warned.
The human rights commissioner called for an end to the persecution of Crimean Tatars and the arbitrary arrest, harassment and searches of the homes of human rights defenders, activists, political and social actors and journalists belonging to the community.
Mijatovic stated that since the occupying Russian authorities in the Crimean peninsula are severely restricting media freedom, the Ukrainian authorities must ensure adequate support for the Crimean Tatar television and radio stations available on the territory of Ukraine in order to continue to provide broadcasting services for the benefit of the Tatar community.
