Poland’s decision to send its MiG-29 jet fighters to Ukraine does not affect the US position not to send F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv, the White House confirmed on Thursday.

“It doesn’t change our plans for the F-16,” White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

Poland’s decision “does not affect, does not change” this position, he added.

Polish President Andrzej Duda announced on Thursday that Warsaw will hand over four MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in the coming days.

In turn, a group of US senators has called on United States Defense Minister Lloyd Austin to provide an assessment of the possibilities of supplying Ukraine with F-16 jet fighters, as well as the associated risks, by the end of the week, reported the web publication “Politico”.

The letter was signed by both Democrats and Republicans.

Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine is now in a “critical phase”, the senators said.

The arrival of two Ukrainian pilots in Arizona, where their combat skills are being evaluated at an Army base, was seen by senators as a critical step in assessing their readiness to fly the F-16.
