On Saturday, in Riga, in the square near the House of Congress, a humanitarian aid convoy was escorted to Ukraine, where three large minibuses loaded with various goods were sent, Latvian Ukrainian confederation “Viče” informed.

The cargo was completed and will be delivered to the defenders of Ukraine by the confederation of Ukrainians of Latvia “Viče”.

The cargo contains food and warm blankets for internally displaced people who fled from Russian-occupied territories. The buses will deliver canned food and meal kits, equipped with self-heating, which are an irreplaceable thing for those who are currently in the trenches on the battlefields in the direction of Bakhmut, donated by Latvian hunters to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Pianist Andrejs Osokins takes care of the meals.

Yurijs Zaharčuks, acting head of the Ukrainian embassy, emphasized that the country of Latvia is a convincing leader in terms of aid to Ukraine – the amount of aid will soon reach 1% of the gross domestic product. On the other hand, non-governmental organizations, companies and people have donated 38 million euros during the year.

“The word ‘thank you’ is used very often on the part of Ukraine, but we include the deepest meaning and huge gratitude in it,” said Zakharchuk, highly appreciating that those who already help a lot keep coming with new initiatives and questions, how else they can support Ukraine’s struggle against the Russian occupiers.

There are also several vehicles for soldiers in the convoy. Two SUVs and two drone “Atlas Pro” complexes will be sent to the 72nd brigade. These unmanned aerial vehicles have been purchased from the transferred funds of the “Ziedot.lv” charity fund, which were donated for the purchase of the unmanned aerial vehicle “Bayraktar” at the request of Ralf Eiland.

“Latvians do not tire of providing aid to Ukraine, they continue to donate. There are usually months when, perhaps due to the large utility bills, there are fewer donations, but in general – Latvia continues to do so,” emphasizes Rūta Dimanta, head of “Ziedot.lv”.

Another pickup, which was provided by the society “Agendum” (twitter convoy), will go to the marines of the 36th brigade, who defended the “Azovstal” plant in the currently occupied Mariupol.

Thanks to the association “Your Friends”, the SUV was loaded with smokeless trench candles, camouflage nets and knitted woolen socks for defenders of Ukraine. On the other hand, thanks to the supporter of “Viče” – the company “Latvijas finieris”, cans with fuel, a drone, tires with off-road tread will go to Ukraine, and the company provides everything necessary for the trip.

The center “Es esmu Mariupole” in Dnipro, which provides support to people whose homes have been taken away by Russia, will receive several hundred individual sets from the store chain “Maxima Latvija” and blankets from “Kesko Senukai Latvija”. Also, the Dnipro city metro will receive transformable beds, as the stations serve as bomb shelters during air raids.
