In an interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Hungary’s behavior is inappropriate and that it should decide which side it is on. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó responded to the criticism in four points:

Fortunately, he does not decide this (that is, whether Hungarian behavior is appropriate – ed.)

The Hungarian people have already paid an extremely high price for this war.

Many Hungarians – members of the Transcarpathian Hungarian community – have already died in this war.

If this statement means: “I respectfully thank the Hungarians for letting in and taking care of more than a million refugees from Ukraine, and I respectfully thank them for continuously sending aid!”, then “You are welcome and can count on us in the future.”
