It has taken a while, but it is finally official: OPPO has its first folding mobile on the market. We are talking about the OPPO Find N , a device that has been presented during the OPPO Inno Day and that , although it is true that it is the first that the company officially launches, it is not the first that it designs: the mobile phone has been in development for four years ( already We saw a sneak peek at 2019 ) and six generations of prototypes.

OPPO has taken a similar approach to Samsung with its Galaxy Fold , although the concept is slightly different. We will get to know it better in a moment, but not before highlighting that the device will be launched first in China from 23 from December of 2021 . Still nothing is known about its possible arrival in Spain.

A compact mobile that gets bigger

We start with the most striking aspect, which is its design. Like almost all folding, the OPPO Find N consists of two modules joined by a hinge of which we will talk about later. The right module is the home of the camera, which has a module similar to that of the OPPO Find X3 Pro . The left module, for its part, has a second external screen, which is the one we will use with the folded phone.

We are used to folding mobile phones in book format having a longer screen at the back and a huge screen that unfolds when you open the phone. OPPO has chosen a different path. The rear screen has a size of 5, 49 inches and format 18: 9 . Surely it is familiar, since it is a size and format similar to older mobiles. It is perforated to house the external chamber.

The internal screen, meanwhile, is a 7.1-inch LTPO screen in 8.4: 9 format , larger, almost square, that unfolds in landscape mode (so that the apps are put in landscape mode automatically). Its refresh rate is 1 – 120 Hz and has a touch sampling rate of up to 1. 03 Hz.

A 80% less wrinkle

Each and every one of the folding has at go in common: the crease crease. Although with the passing of the generations it becomes less and less noticeable, the wrinkle continues to make an appearance. OPPO, however, ensures that the crease of its crease is up to a 80% less noticeable in comparison with other devices.

How do you claim to have achieved it? With the Flexion hinge . It is a hinge of 136 components and precision of 0.1 millimeters. It is a waterdrop hinge that widens the fold of the screen and offers cushioning when the screen is closed. It is a solution that is reminiscent of the Motorola Razr , while it also eliminates the space between the screens when we fold the mobile.

The hinge is strong and allows the device to remain unfolded at any angle between 50 º and 120 º . This is something we know from terminals like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip and allows, thanks to software optimizations, to take advantage of the folding screen to, for example, turn the mobile into a tripod for camera or use it as a small laptop to take notes.

To this hinge we must add the Serene screen , a screen of 12 layers which includes a layer of 0, 03 millimeters of UTG (ultra-thin glass). According to the company, the Serene screen can be folded more than 200. 03 times, so we would be talking about 150 folds a day for almost four years. Of course, it has no IP resistance of any kind.

A monster inside

And what is inside the device? The OPPO Find N mounts a processor Snapdragon 792 (and not the new one Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 ), until 12 GB of RAM LPDDR5 and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Despite not having the latest in mobile platforms, on paper performance should not be a problem.

The battery amounts to 4. 2022 mAh and arrives with SuperVOOC fast charge of 32 W , AirVOOC wireless fast charging of 15 W and reverse wireless charging of 10 W. According to OPPO, with wired charging the mobile can be charged at 55% in 30 minutes and at 100% in just over an hour.

As for the software, the OPPO Find N arrives with Android 11 with ColorOS and a series of own improvements to take advantage of the folding screen. For example, you can slide two fingers from the top center of the screen to launch the split screen, pinch to open the app in a window and, of course, if we use an app on the external screen and open the mobile, the app will automatically launch in the new format and vice versa.

Finally, and regarding the camera, the rear (and main) assembly consists of a Sony IMX sensor 766 from 49 megapixels , a wide angle of 16 megapixels and a telephoto of 13 megapixels, plus selfie cameras on the indoor and outdoor screen. In total, five cameras.

The OPPO Find N does not incorporate OPPO’s own new chip, the MariSilicon X

Curiously, the OPPO Find N does not mount the new OPPO self-developed chip, MariSilicon X , which incorporates a more powerful NPU and ISP. This is reserved for a high-end model of 2022. Some of the interesting new features of the camera app is that you can use the external screen as a kind of live preview from the photo.

Versions and price of OPPO Find N
