Oily skins are those that due to excessive sebum production and poor skin renewal end up producing more shine in areas such as the forehead, nose or perioral area. There are different reasons that explain the causes of this oily skin , but it is also true that there are ways to treat it. But oily skin can become a real problem when it leads to more serious problems like acne.

Acne appears mainly in adolescence , due to hormonal changes, but it also affects people over 25 years of age due to other issues that do not have to be related to hormonal factors. The good news is that there are also ways to treat it, stop it, and try to alleviate the problems of acne skin. We explain the causes and their possible treatments.

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when these two problems occur at the same time: on the one hand, the sebaceous gland produces excess oil and, on the other hand, there is an obstruction of the holes in the surface of the skin, called pores. This triggers an inflammation of the pore due to the accumulation of fat inside it, even being able to lead to an infection.

Oily skin, what causes it

In general, some parts of the body have skin that is usually very oily. As we have already explained, it is about the forehead, the nose or the perioral area . This is because the sebaceous glands have different sizes, and they are usually larger precisely on the face and upper back. Parts where there is also a greater concentration of them.

But why do some people have oily skin and others don’t? The poor organization of the epidermis causes oily skin . On the one hand because there are people who have skin that produces more fat than normal and on the other because of dyskeratosis. That is, because skin renewal is deficient, that is, the dead cells of the stratum corneum are not shed properly.

The most common causes of this are:

The genetic. As with other health-related problems, genetics can be a factor that determines the type of skin we have.

Hormonal changes. They are the main cause and are largely responsible for producing acne.

Stress or other psychosocial factors. Stress makes us sweat more and causes a greater generation of oil on the skin.

Social and environmental causes. Pollution, excess humidity and ultimately the environment can influence. At the same time, the diet that we follow has direct effects on the production of fat in the skin. Red meat, added sugars or refined flour are fat enhancers.

Vegan Foods

In cases in which the clogging of the pores does not occur, excess sebum can come out, producing the dreaded facial shine. This is the case with what is considered oily skin. In these cases, an inflammatory lesion may also appear from time to time.

Why does acne appear?

Internal factors:

  • Hormonal disorders in which there is an increased level of androgens (eg puberty or pregnancy).
  • Genetic causes: having oily skin.
  • Other pathologies: endocrine disorders, tumors…

External factors:

  • Incorrect hygiene (causing sebaceous retention in the skin).
  • Extreme weather conditions.
  • Stress.
  • Medications: barbiturates, anabolics…

Acne, what causes it

Acne is a pilosebaceous inflammatory disease. And a patient is known to suffer from it when papules, pustules, nodules, cysts, and / or scars appear on the skin. Acne appears due to an accumulation of fat within the follicle , which is what causes inflammation.

Acne, therefore, derives from oily skin, even if only temporarily. Therefore, its causes are closely related to those of oily skin . Now, in this case, hormonal changes play a fundamental role. Puberty, menstruation or pregnancy can be factors that enhance the appearance of acne in people, especially women. In fact, late acne, the one that appears after the age of 25, has increased in recent years. Although it is not very well known why, factors such as diet or pollution could explain this increase.

Treatment, solutions for oily and acne skin

Although there is no miraculous treatment that makes the fat disappear from these areas of the skin, there are different formulas to try to combat acne symptoms , avoid the sequelae that acne skin can leave and even help prevent or treat it.

A good diet, low in fat, can help us to slow down the production of fat a little. Reducing stress or avoiding pollution are also important factors in trying to avoid it. Even so, if we suffer from it, it is interesting to study the real causes of our acne in order to apply an effective solution. Some pharmacy products can also help us combat this problem.
