Now a lot depends on company managers: they have to make these decisions

We live in a world that is changing at an amazing pace, which is uncertain in many respects, yet we make decisions, make investments, and managers shape the future vision of their company. What are the factors that are now the most decisive for the growth of a company’s effectiveness? How open are the members of the Managers’ Association to those processes and investments that involve a kind of change of attitude?

Attila Kiss: The economy develops very dynamically, which requires making a lot of investment, development and investment decisions. Among the members, we find that they try to keep up with the changes and spend time on making the best possible decisions for the long-term stable operation of the companies. I also follow this principle, things will happen, the question is how we shape the events.

The number of members of the association is growing dynamically, from which we can see that those who are reliable, professionally operating, they want to create forward-looking company management, they are very open regardless of the sector to the experiences of others. From the side of the mentors, we also used to synthesize the impressions and topics we see, how forward-looking the individual processes are. I think the right approach is to work on the vision of the company,

we look for investment opportunities and form a team where the company can develop together with employees with the appropriate knowledge and skills.

What do they experience, how much has the Hungarian management culture changed in recent years, has a more conscious approach to operational processes, the development of strategies and their implementation become more typical? How is the proportion of women and young people developing among managers?

K: Company managers no longer only train themselves in an autodidactic way, they pay attention and devote energy to developing themselves, the management team and the organization. Today, the classic manager role is increasingly progressing into a leader role, i.e. a leader who does not necessarily strive to make every small decision, but has a definite vision and strategy, and succeeds through his team and together with them.

Fortunately, there are more and more young leaders, many of whom are far ahead of where I was at the time in terms of openness, vision, and entrepreneurial approach. The startup topic continues to have a very positive impact on me, this kind of agility, risk-taking and courage, as they tackle topics, and of course the innovative way of thinking, the introduction of new things, is very attractive. It is interesting to observe their operation, especially from the aspect of attitude.

Tímea Buday-Kollárik: For the fourth year, we are organizing the Future Manager and the Masterclass mentoring programs, with which we aim to attract as many young managers or young people who want to become managers to the Managers’ Association. Through the program 80 young people participate in our activities every year, who also receive a one-year membership, and many of them remain members later. On March 8, we launched the Let fashion be the female leader for the third time! our campaign and I can proudly say that within the membership the proportion of female managers was well over 40%. In addition to top managers, the number of middle managers is also constantly increasing. The diversity of the organization and membership is really visible at our events, it’s a great feeling to be at them

now top and middle managers, young and more experienced managers, as well as our female and male members participate in equal proportions.

How Managers for Society was created – Focus on the Future! conference? What topics will be covered this year?

BK. T.: I found it very confusing at the beginning of covid that it was almost only about what difficulties we had to face, what happened on that day with the virus situation, but what will happen to the economy after the epidemic, what we can expect, how long it can drag on and most importantly, what we can do in this situation for the development of businesses, there was nothing forward-looking about it, relevant information. This was Managers for Society – Focus on the Future! also the basic premise of our conference.

We wanted to support company managers with additional information and a positive outlook that would help them prepare for possible changes in the post-covid period. The first two conferences were held online, last year the third was already held in hybrid mode, and this year we will organize it in person on March 31 in the renewed Millenáris Fogodó. The managers support each other with lectures and panel discussions on topics that may be the most decisive for the success of a business in a given year.

This year, our subtitle is effective company management for a successful future, and we will cover the financial, investment and energy aspects that permanently influence the progress of companies.

K: We are living in a turbulent period when a lot depends on how and in what direction the managers lead the businesses, so we tried to highlight the areas that can be success factors. In the Managers’ Association, we do a lot to ensure that the Hungarian generation of managers can perform managerial tasks at an international level, and whether it is a small, medium, large company or a startup, can make the business unit a success. On the one hand, by success we mean stability and financial effectiveness, but I think it is very important to be able to show people clear goals and a path so that they feel good, develop, and be motivated. We continue to follow the goals that we defined together with Kapitány István in the presidency, and our vision has not changed.

on the other hand, it is precisely in this environment that the role of man is valued, and we deal with the living and further development of this role.

What is a great joy is that those values, I mean diversity, professionalism, cooperation, and the international-level company management knowledge that appears within the Managers’ Association, are in demand and we can represent all of this in Hungary as well.

In addition to the transfer of professional information and experience, the conference also has another mission, every year they collect donations or for some common purpose. How much do these types of activities move the members?

BK.T.: In the first year, we supported UNICEF, and since then we have been collecting for our own tree planting program. We decided to plant trees even when sustainable economy was our topic and the program was so successful that there was no question of keeping it. So far 2We managed to plant 500 trees, which we want to double this year. This is a community program for members, where every fall we plant 1,250 shrubs together with approximately 100 people in the Climate Protection Small Forest of the Managers’ Association. We work for a sustainable future in all areas, for years we have been striving to achieve complete net zero in the organization of the conference, last year, for example, we distributed the amount left over from the catering to the needy with the help of the Budapest Bike Maffia, and of course we are also paying attention to these goals this year.
