Rome, 8 March (RockedBuzz) (Sam // RockedBuzz)
“Discovering that one in five Italian mothers, two years after the birth of their child, decides to quit their job is a defeat for the whole of Italian society, which is also struggling with a serious demographic decline”. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day at the Quirinale.
“The State, the central institutions and those of the autonomies – added the Head of State – must commit themselves on this front. In particular, developing an efficient and widespread welfare network, capable of removing as much as possible the burden for family assistance, children and the elderly. And working to remove those concrete obstacles that discourage and keep young women away from training courses. Because vocational training, study, specialization, increase in culture, are a fundamental lever for finding employment and to get out of a condition of marginality and subordination “.
According to Mattarella “we no longer have to allow women to be asked in job interviews and only to them: ‘Are you married? Do you have children? Are you planning to have them?’ We can no longer accept that women live in fear of violence. Whether they are in the form of brutal physical aggression – on the street, in the workplace and at leisure, in the family – or under those, often disguised but always serious, of psychological pressures and real blackmail “.
Furthermore, “it is not compatible with our civilization that, with equal duties and employment, there is a difference in pay to the detriment of women”.
