Olympic 100m champion Marcell Jacobs won the 60m final at the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Jacobs won gold with a time of 6 seconds and 41 cents: a new European record and best overall performance of the season. The European record previously belonged to Dwain Chambers, who in 2009 in Turin had set it at 6 seconds 42 cents. Jacobs beat US runners Christian Coleman, favorite, and Marvin Bracy. Jacobs’ victory was decreed at the photo finish. “This world gold is magic, but also the fruit of labor,” said Jacobs. “The important thing was to show everyone that Tokyo’s successes were no coincidence.”
