A live broadcast of Russia 1, the main TV channel on the Russian public network VGTRK, was interrupted by a woman protesting the invasion of Ukraine. The woman had with her a sign on which it reads, in Russian and English, ‘No to war, stop to war. Don’t believe the propaganda, they are lying to you ”; and below “Russians against the war”. The Russian news agency TAX says the woman could face an administrative penalty and a few days in prison for the protest.

The woman who interrupted the news is called Marina Ovsyannikova and is part of the editorial staff of the news program of Russia 1. Before interrupting the broadcast she had made a video to better explain the reasons for his gesture:

What is happening in Ukraine is a crime. Russia is the aggressor in this case. And the responsibility for the attack can be traced back to the conscience of a single man: Vladimir Putin.
My father is Ukrainian, my mother is Russian, and they have never been enemies. The necklace I am wearing is a symbol of the fact that Russia must immediately end this fratricidal war. Our brother peoples must be able to make peace.
Unfortunately I have spent many of the last few years working for Russia 1, making propaganda for the Kremlin, and I am deeply ashamed of it. I am ashamed for allowing lies to be broadcast on TV. I am ashamed that I allowed Russian citizens to become zombies. We were silent in 2014, when it all started. We didn’t protest when the Kremlin poisoned Navalny. We have silently observed this inhuman regime, and that’s it. And now the whole world has turned its back on us. And not even the next ten generations will be able to wash the stain of this fratricidal war. We Russians are an intelligent people, a people who think. Only we have the power to stop this madness. Go protest. Don’t be afraid of anything. They can’t lock us all up.
