Jurgen Klopp has stated his belief that Liverpool’s performance in the 6-1 demolition of Leeds United on Monday was the best display they have put in all season.
The Reds have endured a rather miserable season following their successful 2021/22 season, falling far short of expectations and in desperate need of rebuilding the squad.
They managed to put their slump aside on Monday with a dominant display at Elland Road, hitting struggling Leeds for six.
Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez grabbed goals either side of braces from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota, while Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to form with a pair of assists.

Talking with Sky Sports after the match, Klopp praised his team’s efforts.
“I think it’s the best game we’ve played this season from all different perspectives,” Klopp said. “We forced a lot of mistakes, sensational goals and counter pressure, the best game in a long time.
“There were a couple of difficult moments, we conceded useless goals, but those things happen. Apart from that, we were in control of the game.”
Liverpool he hammered rivals Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield in March, but Klopp doubled down on his belief that the performance at Leeds was their most complete display, insisting it’s not always about how many goals are scored.
“I don’t worry about scoring six, it’s the performance that counts. This was a winning performance,” he added. “We can be super offensive oriented if we react at the right moment. I can’t explain why our counter pressure didn’t work [earlier this season]but tonight it snapped.
“I’m not sure how many goals we scored after winning the ball back, that makes the difference.”
Liverpool’s biggest and best wins in 2022/23
The 2022/23 season will not be one that Liverpool fans will remember fondly, especially when compared to the glorious successes of previous seasons.
But while there is a need for fresh momentum at Anfield, the Reds have still managed to shine at times this year with some incredible scoring displays and important wins against quality opponents.
