As the thaw continues, vehicle weight restrictions are currently in place on 794 sections of the state’s gravel roads due to the spring thaw. Still the most sections with restrictions remain in the vicinity of Cēsis, where transport mass restrictions are set on 109 road sections. Restrictions have been introduced in 66 sections of gravel roads in Madona county, 56 in Jēkabpils county, 46 in Aizkraukle county.

The restrictions are determined by evaluating the actual condition of each road and its carrying capacity, so the number of sections where they are relevant can change from day to day. A map with sections where restrictions are set can be found here.

Drivers must be especially careful when choosing a speed appropriate to the condition of the road surface and keeping a safe distance from the vehicles in front.

Flooded sections of roads or other observations related to traffic and road conditions should be reported to VSIA Latvian State Roads by calling the 24-hour free information phone number 80005555, as well as on the company’s accounts on social networks Twitter and Facebook.
