Why did Cristiano Ronaldo join Al Nassr?

Preparation for this move essentially began in the summer of 2022, when it was made clear by Ronaldo and his then agent Jorge Mendes that he wanted to leave Manchester United immediately in pursuit of the Champions League.

Teams such as Chelsea and Bayern Munich were closely linked, but a move never materialized and Erik ten Hag was tasked with reinstating Ronaldo into the squad. Needless to say, he didn’t go straight to the top of the pecking order and a rift started to form between him and the manager.

It all came to a head when he sat down to be interviewed by Piers Morgan. Ronaldo he admitted he did not respect Ten Hag and criticized a number of characteristics of the club and highlighted the lack of development under Glazer ownership in his time at Real Madrid and Juventus.

He didn’t play for United again after and during the Qatar World Cup 2022, his contract was terminated by mutual consent and his second spell at the club ended.

He still had serious hopes of joining a Champions League club, but has now decided to accept a contract with Al Nassr that will make him the highest paid player on the planet.

How to watch Cristiano Ronaldo in UK Saudi Pro League?

Unfortunately for those in the UK who want to continue watching Ronaldo play, there is no live coverage of the Saudi Pro League being shown. The league doesn’t have streaming deals with any networks in the UK, so they can’t be broadcast legally.

Should Al Nassr qualify for the AFC Champions League next season, fans in the UK could see him play in that competition live on OneFootball. Highlights can also be found on Eurosport for the AFC Champions League.

Fans will be able to watch highlights of matches featuring Ronaldo if they go to the official Al Nassr YouTube channel.

When will Cristiano Ronaldo make his debut for Al Nassr?

Unfortunately for those who already have tickets to Al Nassr’s next match, Ronaldo is now serving an average of two-match ban which was carried over from the Premier League. He was given a ban and a fine for breaking a phone off the hand of an Everton fan after a match at Goodison Park.

The incident occurred in April but the punishment was meted out in November, by which time Ronaldo had already gone to the World Cup and left United. Therefore, he is transferred to the Saudi Pro League. It means Ronaldo will miss Thursday’s meeting with Al Tai and Saturday’s visit to title rivals Al Shabab, but will be free to line up for his new side on 21 January against Ettifaq.
