Having a password on your computer increases the security of the data it contains. However, if you prefer, you can make the session start automatically as soon as you turn on your PC, without the need for a password. We tell you how to remove the Windows 10 startup password.

User account settings

The Microsoft operating system does not have a visible option in the configuration that allows removing the Windows 10 startup password. However, you have at your disposal a hidden command to carry out this task.

You can find it by typing in Cortana’s search bar “netplwiz” (without the quotes). When you do this, a result appears to run this command with an icon almost identical to the one used for user accounts in Control Panel. Here you will find additional options for existing user accounts.

Specifically, you will see that at the top of this new window there is a marked box that indicates “users must enter their name and password to use the equipment”. Then uncheck this box and click on the OK button to remove the Windows login password.

Disable password after suspension

If you have followed the steps in the previous section it will no longer be necessary to enter a password in Windows 10 to log in after turning on your computer. The problem is that, with this step, you have only deactivated it for this situation, so if, for example, you want to access your PC after a suspension, it will continue to ask you to identify yourself.

To prevent Windows 10 from asking you for the user password after a system suspension, you have to access the Settings options available in the Start menu. From here, click on the Accounts category, and from the options that you will see on the left, select Login options.

Once this is done, you only have to select the Never option in the first drop-down, and your preference will be saved automatically. However, if you have a Microsoft account instead of a local account, this preference will be useless and will continue to ask for your password after a suspension.

Create a local account

The only way to prevent Windows 10 from asking you to enter your password after a system sleep is to convert your Microsoft account to a local account. To do this you will have to go to the Settings options of the Start menu and access the Accounts category.

Next, go to the Your email and accounts section in the left column and you will see a colored text that says Sign in with a local account instead. The system will ask you to identify yourself again to verify that you are the owner of the account.

When the transformation to a local account is completed, this account will logically keep the password it had before, that is, that of your Microsoft account. You will have to go back to the account settings, go to the Login options section and click on the Change button to change your password.

Again you will have to enter your current password, but when it asks for the new password, leave both spaces blank. This way, you no longer have to worry about retyping your password to sign in to Windows 10.

How to remove password in Windows 10?

Windows 10, the world’s most widely used computer operating system, has been both criticized and praised with the updates it has received since 2015. Although it still has problems with security, it is possible to say that Microsoft has improved its work on this issue. For example, when you want to install Windows 10 on a FreeDos system, ie a hardware that does not have an operating system, you have to create a PIN.

The said PIN can consist of 4 numbers or a combination of numbers and letters if you wish. With this type of encryption, it is possible to keep your personal data and all your files partially safe. However, entering a password every time the computer is turned on can disturb some users. Microsoft has designed the Windows 10 password remove option to be easily controlled.

Step #1: Open the “Start” menu,
Step #2: Type “netplwiz” in the search bar that opens,
Step #3: Uncheck the “User Accounts” screen,
Step #4: After clicking the “Apply” button, write your username and password on the screen that appears,
Step #5: After completing all the steps, restart your computer.

Step #1: Open the “Start” menu

Step #3: Uncheck the User Accounts screen

After accessing the User Accounts screen, uncheck the item “User must enter a name and password to use this computer” and click the “apply” button. After pressing this button, you will see a new screen.

Step #4: After clicking the “Apply” button, write your username and password on the screen that appears.

After removing the tick we mentioned in the previous step and clicking the “apply” button at the bottom right, you will see a new screen. Fill in the “username“, “password” and “confirm password” tabs with your updated information.

Step #5: Restart your computer after completing all the steps

After making all the changes mentioned in the 4 steps above, restart your computer for the settings to take effect. Thus, you will no longer have to enter a password when opening your computer.

In 5 steps and a few minutes, you got rid of the password on your computer’s opening screen. However, you should remember that the absence of this password will prevent your computer from being safe. If you do not use your computer in a fixed way and without changing the location, applying Windows 10 password removal procedures may not be good for the security of your personal data.
