Thousands of protesters across France demonstrated on Thursday after President Emanuel Macron forced pension reform.

In the Place de la Concorde in Paris more than 6,000 people occupied the square waving flags and burning fires.

It follows the Macron government which uses article 49.3 to impose reforms on French pension laws.

The National Assembly’s chants and jeers at Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne were met with ridicule in the National Assembly when she invoked Article 49.3.

“We cannot run the risk of seeing 175 hours of parliamentary debate collapsed,” he said.

“We cannot bet on the future of our pensions. Reform is needed.”
