The unique thing about this specific unit, dubbed the M.2 2230, is that it’s tiny, measuring just 30mm in length. Because Steam Deck requires such a small SSD, it’s not always easy to find, which is why we love Framework for selling it and making it easier for gamers. The unit is considered an OEM (aka Original Equipment Manufacturer) product, so it’s a bit unusual for it to be sold directly to consumers. Also, Framework sells the maximum capacity of this particular drive, which is just great. They have always been a consumer first company, encouraging their customers to update and repair their Framework laptops.
I have no hands-on experience with this particular unit, so I can’t speak to how it affects the Steam Deck. However, according to Valve, the manufacturer behind the portable device, it could drain the battery faster. You can definitely find them on Amazon or other online retailers, but you might want to be careful, as some sellers are shady as heck.
