The heads of the Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian ministries of culture agreed on Tuesday in Kraków, Poland, to support Ukrainian culture threatened by the war, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage Protection in Warsaw announced.

The agreement also supports monument protection activities, with particular attention to places on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The ministers negotiated in Krakow within the framework of the Lublin Triangle. The Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian cooperation format was established in 2020 to cooperate in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic and to support Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

In the Wawel Royal Castle in Kraków, the portfolio managers also viewed the works of Johann Georg Pinsel, an 18th-century sculptor settled in Galicia, who were transferred to Poland from the National Fine Arts Gallery in Lemberg due to the war in Ukraine.

The pretrial detention of the American journalist arrested in Russia on suspicion of espionage has been extended

On Tuesday, a Russian court extended the pretrial detention of Evan Gershkovich, a reporter for the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, by three months, until August 30, Russian news agencies reported.

The Russian authorities did not announce Tuesday’s court hearing in advance, just as they have not informed the public about any of the legal proceedings in the case of the American journalist who was detained in Yekaterinburg on March 29 on suspicion of espionage.

So far, it has not been revealed whether Gershkovich or representatives of the American embassy were able to participate in Tuesday’s hearing, or what evidence was collected to support the espionage accusations.

According to a report by the Russian news agency TASSSZ, the Tuesday meeting was closed to the public on the grounds that the authorities suspect the journalist of possessing “secret materials”.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius criticized Hungary at the May 23 meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels for blocking additional military aid to Ukraine, reported RFERL.

Not long before, the Supreme Court authorized the detention of its former president, and its members removed him from his post with a motion of no confidence.

According to the former chief judge, it is a politically motivated case initiated out of revenge. He also argued that his office simply kept money that other people, including judges, took there.

Later, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (VAKSZ) ordered a 60-day investigative detention against Knyazyev, who was accused of bribery, and allowed him to defend himself at large in exchange for a bail of 107.4 million hryvnias (more than one billion forints).
