The Monegasque Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first race of the new Formula 1 World Championship, which took place on Sunday at night at the Sakhir circuit. With Leclerc – who started from pole position – Ferrari returned to win in Formula 1 after three years of waiting: the most recent victory was the one obtained in Singapore in 2019 by Sebastian Vettel.

In second place went Carlos Sainz, who by going to the podium confirmed the great expectations this year for Ferrari, already among the best teams in the preparation tests. Sainz was able to improve his position at the end of the race also thanks to the retirement of the world champion Max Verstappen due to technical problems at his Red Bull.

Lewis Hamilton finished in third place, “saved” by the entry of the safety car about ten laps from the end, which brought the group back together, and then by the spin of Sergio Perez, who was third up to that point, caused by technical problems as in the case of teammate Verstappen. With two retirements, Red Bull unexpectedly finished the first race of the World Championship without scoring points.

The order of arrival of the Bahrain Grand Prix:

Leclerc (Ferrari) Sainz (Ferrari) Hamilton (Mercedes) Russell (Mercedes) Magnussen (Haas) Bottas (Alfa Romeo) Ocon (Alpine) Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri) Alonso (Alpine) Zhou (Alfa Romeo) Schumacher (Haas) Stroll (Aston Martin) Albon (Williams) Ricciardo (McLaren) Norris (McLaren) Latifi (Williams) Hulkenberg (Aston Martin)

McLaren also had quite big problems, which only got a fourteenth and a fifteenth place with Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris. Haas, on the other hand, confirmed the tremendous progress made since last season by scoring points with Kevin Magnussen, fifth, and finishing eleventh with Mick Schumacher.

Even if it is only at the beginning, in Bahrain the first race of the World Championship with the new technical regulations has kept its promises: it was a competitive race, without great gaps and with many overtaking, such as those repeated in the middle of the race between Leclerc and Verstappen . The next Grand Prix of the season will take place in a week in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
