Red Bull started the F1 season without a single point.
– It’s extremely painful, says Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen chased Charles Leclerc for the win. He had the chance in a restart six laps before the finish, but then the car broke down.
– After my last stop at the depot, something happened to the steering, so after the restart I was just happy to be able to keep Carlos behind me and a second place would have been really good.
But this did not happen. Instead, he was forced to break, two laps from goal.
– Then something happened, it seems that the fuel did not reach the engine, because it just stopped, the champion tells Viaplay.
Not only did he lose Carlos Sainz and second place. He lost everything and rolled to the depot where he had to stop running.
Shortly thereafter he also saw his colleague Sergio Perez suffer the same fate. He defended himself from Lewis Hamilton, but suddenly lost his grip, spun and was hit by all the cars.
What could have been second and fourth places were zero points.
– It really hurt me. I was hoping for a win, but a second place would have been good. So breaking up with two cars is extremely painful, says Verstappen.
Formula 1 now continues in Saudi Arabia and the second round will be decided next week.
