The future of the Baltic states will depend to a great extent on the outcome of the war in Ukraine, and fortunately, the Western countries are aware of this, says Kremlin critic Garry Kasparov in an interview with the TVNET portal. He is in Riga, where the 4th Anti-War Conference organized by the “Free Russia Forum” organization is taking place on March 25.

“The Baltic states and Poland have been talking about threats from Russia for years, even decades. Thank God, Western politicians accepted Poland and the Baltic states into NATO, because otherwise we might see Russian tanks entering the streets of Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn,” says Kasparov.

“I think it is now clear that it was a good decision that protected the Baltic states from the return of Russian soldiers. However, the future of the Baltic states and Eastern Europe depends very much on the outcome of the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian army alone is doing what NATO has been preparing for a year dozens. Since 1949, when the alliance was founded, its sole purpose was to save free Europe from the aggression of Soviet Russia. This battle is being fought now, and it is being fought by a country that is technically not a member of NATO at all.”

“God forbid that Putin manages to keep these territories one way or another. Then everyone is in danger,” he emphasizes. “At the moment, everyone understands this. Americans, Europeans… Dramatic changes are visible in German policy. For decades, Germany did not want anything to do with warfare and could not imagine sending German tanks to fight against the Russians in Ukraine. Now it is happening. Because it is clear that if Ukraine fails to stop and destroy Putin’s armies, then NATO soldiers will have to defend NATO territories. And that’s a completely different story.”

The full interview will be published next week in the online magazine “Klik”!
