Epic Games Apple battle could undermine mobile gaming industry
Microsoft issued a statement explaining why a game engine such as the Unreal Engine should not be blocked, rather than taking sides in this debate, which has been going on since last week. The declaration was published by Game Developer experiences General Manager Kevin Gammill.
Unreal Engine is used in the development of several high-end mobile games, notably PUBG. After Microsoft blocked these updates, it highlighted the risk that games listed on the App Store at the top are facing update issues.
Microsoft says this tough battle between the two big tech firms will hurt many game developers and the mobile gaming industry.Microsoft, which has asked Apple to leave Unreal Engine updates out of the question, seems to have stepped in to ensure that the industry is most minimally affected by this crisis.
Epic had added an alternative payment method to Google and Apple payment methods with its latest update for Fortnite. After this update, which clearly contravened Apple and Google Developers agreements, Fortnite was kicked out of both app markets.
