Elon Musk attacks former Twitter leaders trying to bring attention back to the GOP’s favorite target: Hunter Biden and his laptop

In fact, the alleged evidence was the work of an independent journalist who had access to internal Twitter emails showing the debate within the company about restricting a New York Post item in 2020 on the contents of a laptop belonging to then-presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son. Twitter initially limited user access to that article, which fueled claims by Republicans that the company was trying to suppress harmful information about the Bidens ahead of the election.

Musk, who has been trying to curry favor with Republicans since taking over Twitter in October, seized on the topic as explosive new information about society favoring Democrats over Republicans. In reality, emails just highlighted the back and forth between Twitter staff and Biden’s campaign team, who had asked Twitter to take down several tweets.

The journalist who published the emails on Friday, Matt Taibbi, did not reveal the content of the tweets in question. But some Twitter users who followed the show found out the deleted tweets were pornographic photos of Biden.

An e-mail shows that at least one Democrat was concerned about Twitter censorship of the New York Post history. Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna wrote to Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s former chief legal officer, politician and trustee, to say the article ban is “generating a huge backlash on Hill Re’s speech” and offers to chat.

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter at the time, ultimately renegade Twitter’s blocking of New York Post item. Initially, he had no idea the article had been banned, according to Taibbi, who portrayed the decision as being made by Dorsey’s out-of-control staff.

“There are multiple instances in the files of Dorsey stepping in to question suspensions and other moderation actions, for accounts across the political spectrum,” Taibbi he wroteapparently freeing Musk’s friend Dorsey from political bias.
