Eintracht Frankfurt CEO Axel Hellmann has revealed that he has been offered the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo a few months ago.

While still under contract with Manchester United over the summer, Ronaldo sought an exit from Old Trafford. He received a huge offer from Saudi Arabia but preferred to stay in Europe and pursue the Champions League despite a lack of suitors.

One team tentatively linked to Ronaldo was Frankfurt, who were starting their first season in Europe’s top club competition after winning last season Europa League.

In an interview with DAZNHellmann confirmed that Frankfurt have indeed been approached about a possible deal Ronaldobut they felt they were not the only ones.

“[Ronaldo] it was even offered to us,” he said. “I have a feeling that it was offered to all the Champions League clubs.”

Ronaldo he was believed to want to join another Champions League club in part to help extend his goalscoring record in the competition, particularly with Lionel Messi breathing down his neck.

His United contract was terminated by mutual consent towards the end of November and 90 minutes he understands that he has a world-record offer from Saudi Arabian Al-Nassr on the table, an offer he has yet to accept.

Frankfurt, meanwhile, managed to qualify for the round of 16 Champions League, finishing second to Tottenham in the group stage. They will face leaders Napoli in the next round, having topped Group A ahead of Liverpool.
