In the swing state of Pennsylvania, Democrats prevailed in two closely watched statewide races: a U.S. Senate race that found State Attorney General Josh Shapiro crushing far-right State Sen. Doug Mastriano by double digits, and a nail-biting U.S. Senate race that found Lt. Gov. John Fetterman narrowly defeating GOP nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz. Democrats flipped a Senate seat that has been mostly in Republican hands for decades — most recently, with arch-conservative Sen. Pat Toomey (who decided not to seek a third term) and before that, with the late Sen. Arlen Specter (who became a Democrat near the end of his life but spent most of his political career in the GOP).
Former President Donald Trump endorsed both Oz and Mastriano, and according to the New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, Trump is “furious” about the 2022 midterms results — especially Oz’s loss.
In a Twitter thread posted on Wednesday, November 9 — the day after Election Day — Haberman posted, “Trump is indeed furious this morning, particularly about Mehmet Oz, and is blaming everyone who advised him to back Oz — including his wife, describing it as not her best decision, according to people close to him.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Trump will seek the 2024 presidential nomination. Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney and “fixer,” doesn’t think that Trump will run; “Real Time” host Bill Maher, on the other hand, has predicted that not only will Trump run in 2024 — he will make a coup attempt if he loses to a Democratic nominee and possibly set off a constitutional crisis and widespread civil unrest.
