WASHINGTON (RockedBuzz via Reuters) – Republicans say they won’t cut Social Security and Medicare programs, but “everything else is on the table” in talks on raising the US government’s debt limits, the committee chair said Sunday. House Supervisor James Comer.
“We have to support those shows. They’re running out of money. But ultimately, those shows will be out of the question with respect to cuts, but everything else is on the table,” Comer said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” .
The US government got close to the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling earlier this month, prompting the Treasury to warn it may not be able to avoid default after early June.
But as that deadline looms, Republican lawmakers and President Joe Biden are locked in disagreement on the path to raising the loan limit. Biden says he wouldn’t negotiate to increase it, while Republicans say they wouldn’t agree to increase it without spending concessions.
