(Teleborsa) – Italian women are the most enterprising in Europe, with 1.4 million independent workers, before 1.2 million in France and 1 million in Germany and Spain. But they are also the ones who paid the highest price of the pandemic crisis: between September 2019 and September 2021, independent female employment decreased by 7.8%, compared with the 6.1% decline recorded by the male component. The trend of independent women’s work is detected by Confartigianato in an analysis which shows the difficulties and efforts to recover the ground lost during the 23 months of the pandemic.

In particular, Confartigianato has deepened the commitment of the 219,198 artisan enterprises led by women who are experiencing a phase that is still uncertain in terms of recovery but are also very determined to relaunch their business. A survey conducted by Confartigianato among Lombard artisan entrepreneurs highlights a drop in revenues of 9.7% between 2019 and 2021, higher than the -8.8% recorded by the total number of entrepreneurs. The strong presence in the sectors most affected by the crisis caused this notable decline: fashion and well-being. But the artisan entrepreneurs do not give up: from the Confartigianato survey, signs of resilience and ability to react that are superior to those of male colleagues emerge. In fact, 61.2% of female entrepreneurs say they are ready to take development actions for their company. The women at the helm of small businesses they aim above all to improve the quality of personnel with training activities and new hires and to change the internal organization of the company.
