Sunday it was set up a lockdown in the city of Shenzhen, which has 17 million inhabitants and is located in southeastern China. The lockdown was decided due to a sharp increase in coronavirus infections: almost 3,400 cases were detected throughout the country in the last 24 hours, in Shenzhen 66. Previously the local government had already decided on a partial lockdown in the financial district of the city, now it will be extended to the whole territory at least until March 20; the suspension will also affect public transport. In the next few days there will also be mass tests on the population, carried out in three different phases.
For almost three months now, China has been pursuing the “zero-Covid” strategy, which provides for the total closure of the most populous cities even in the presence of a few dozen cases, to prevent more widespread spread of the infection.
