Chelsea to hear offers for Jorginho ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, 90 minutes he understands.
The midfielder has six months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and there are no signs of a new deal, while Chelsea have been looking to add midfielders this month – they are expected to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a British record fare the day of expiration.
This will allow Jorginho to explore a move away from the club before his current contract expires, sources have said 90 minutes are open to offers from their Premier League rivals.
Arsenal emerged as a potential target on Monday. The Gunners’ main target is Moises Caicedo and they were preparing a third bid for the Ecuadorian, but with Brighton remaining firm and insisting they are not for sale this month, the north Londoners may be making a move for Jorginho instead.
Despite a trophy-laden spell at Chelsea, Jorginho proved a controversial figure among supporters, while there was widespread disbelief when he finished third in the 2021 Ballon d’Or voting.
He nearly joined Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta at Manchester City during the Spaniard’s spell as assistant to Pep Guardiola, but a move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2018 fell through and he joined Chelsea instead.
Hear now how Scott Saunders hosts Graeme Bailey And Toby Cudworth to discuss why Joao Cancelo looks set to join Bayern Munich on loan from Man City, Arsenal’s ongoing search for Moises Caicedo and the future of Pedro Porro, Enzo Fernandez, Youri Tielemans and more.
