The country’s foreign minister, Marcelo Ebrard, and the president of the national pentathlon committee, Maria Jose Alcala, met with Thomas Bachhal, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), on Friday in Lausanne and indicated that they are applying. The Olympic Committee of the North American country is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding this year, MTI reported.

The delegation said that a significant part of the infrastructure required for the event is already available and that they will soon establish their tender committee.

Mexico – with its location in Mexico City – already hosted the Olympics in 1968, hosted the soccer World Cup in 1970 and 1986, and will co-host the World Cup with Canada and the United States in 2026.

That’s back in January insidethegame.biz Balázs Fürjes, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, told the portal that Budapest could also aim to host the 2036 Olympics. Egypt, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Qatar, South Korea, and Turkey are also considering applying for the right to host the 2036 Olympics.
