On Sunday, on the last day of competitions of the Beijing Winter Paralympics, the Italian skier Giacomo Bertagnolli (together with his guide Andrea Ravelli) won the men’s Slalom race in the “vision impaired” category, dedicated to athletes with visual disabilities, while René De Silvestro finished third in the “sitting” Slalom category, dedicated to those with motor disabilities. With these results, Italy placed eleventh in final medal table of the Games, obtaining a total of 7 medals – 2 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronzes -, two more than those won at PyeongChang 2018. China reached the top of the medal table, with 61 medals including 18 golds, followed by Ukraine and Canada, with 29 and 25 medals respectively.

Bertagnolli, who had been Italy’s standard-bearer during the inauguration ceremony of the Beijing Games, also won a gold in the Super combined and two silver in the Super G and in the Giant Slalom. De Silvestro, standard-bearer in the closing ceremony, instead won a silver in the giant slalom, while Giuseppe Romele got a bronze in the middle distance cross-country skiing category “sitting”. The next edition of the Winter Games will be that of Milan-Cortina 2026.
