In the wake of Argentina’s victory over France at the World Cup, Buenos Aires pays tribute to the men who represented the country.
A mural, painted by Maximiliano Bagnasco, captures the moment Lionel Messi lifts the iconic trophy.
Wearing the traditional Qatari Bisht, Messi stands at the center of the artwork, holding the trophy aloft.
Behind him goalkeeper Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez, a national hero during the penalties that saw Albiceleste win the title for the first time since 1986.
Bagnasco is also the creator of a monumental mural of another of the great heroes of Argentine football, Diego Maradona, in a building located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.
It was inaugurated on October 30, when the 1986 world champion would have turned 62.
